Apple Crisp Recipe

A super easy and delicious apple crisp recipe. You'll love the mix of warm apples, cinnamon/sugar and crumbly topping, especially warm from the oven!

My sister-in-law makes amazing pumpkin pie – or so I’ve heard since I’ve never tasted it.  (Not a pumpkin pie fan).  So she brings her pies every holiday and I’m responsible for making the alternative sweets.

My favorites to make are Chocolate Cream Cheese Pie and Apple Crisp, and the apple crisp recipe won when deciding on a recipe for this post.

I love the mix of warm apples, cinnamon/sugar and crumbly topping, especially warm from the oven!

  • 12 cups apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 – 1/4 tablespoon flour
  • 1 – 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 – 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 – 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 – 1/4 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned oats
  • 1 – 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • scant 1 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350.

Place sliced apples in a 9 x 13 pan.

Mix the filling ingredients (flour, sugar, cinnamon) together and sprinkle over apples.

Combine the crumb topping ingredients – flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter – together.

Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.

Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.

Now all that’s left to do is eat enjoy a delicious piece of freshly made apple crisp!

Candied Sweet Potato Recipe and Canadel Dining Furniture

Schneidermans Furniture Canadel Dining Furniture 3

The holidays are fast approaching (can you believe it?), and one of the things many of us look forward to during that time is gathering around the dining table with family and/or friends – talking, laughing, and sharing a good meal.

With that in mind, we’re going to be posting a different recipe and dining furniture favorite each day this week.  Even though time and space don’t allow us to share something from every one of our team members, we’ll at least give you a “taste”.

First up is a sweet potato recipe from Larry Schneiderman. Here’s what he had to say:

Thanksgiving and Easter are my two favorite holidays. For me, sweet potatoes with marshmallows melted over them remind me of Thanksgivings at home many years past. So, it’s a comfort food for me. When we say thanks for the food on the table, I’m especially ready to dig into the little casserole dish with this tasty treat!

Candied Sweet Potatoes

yield: Makes 6 servings

  • 6 medium sweet potatoes, cooked and peeled
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows

Cook, peel, and cube sweet potatoes. Mix together brown sugar, salt and butter. Layer sweet potatoes and sugar/salt/butter mix in a buttered 1 1/2 quart casserole, ending with mix.  Bake uncovered at 375° for about 30 minutes (or until glazed).  Add miniature marshmallows the last 5 minutes; brown lightly.

Where does Larry enjoy eating his favorite sweet potato recipe?  Sitting at his Canadel dining table, of course!

A Room and A Recipe: Creative Stairway and Strawberry S’mores

Red-White Room and Recipe 6-4-14

This is our first “A Room and A Recipe” post and, we’ll be honest, there really isn’t any deep logic to determining what makes the cut.  Just a room and a recipe that feel like they have a reason to be together.

In the case of this staircase and strawberry s’mores recipe, I’m sure you can guess that it was the fresh red and white color scheme.

The room.

The red color pop and rustic texture of this door against the crisp white walls and dark stair treads is what originally caught our attention in this image, but looking closer we realized what a great idea these clipboards are!  The idea is so versatile and we think it could be great used in other ways as well.  As an example:

  • home office
  • kitchen – displaying favorite recipes
  • children’s artwork – provides a way to easily rotate artwork as they create
  • mudroom – one clipboard for each member of the family showing their weekly schedule
  • family room or game room

Can you think of any other ways to use them in your decor?  We would love to hear them!

The recipe.

These strawberry s’mores look so delicious, don’t they!  Naomi at Bakers Royale says that they’re “great for entertaining—easy to make and always impressive. But it’s hard to go wrong with toasted marshmallow frosting and dipped chocolate.”.  We would agree.
