When it comes to ways to add a design “moment” to the architecture of a space, sliding barn doors have to be one of my current favorites.

They’ve been big for some time now and, from what I keep seeing, will continue to be.  They’re everywhere – homes, design blogs, social media, this year’s recent Artisan Home Tour, and now in furniture design.   We all seem to be more than happy to keep the trend alive.

Get the Look: Industrial Rustic

We’re fans of the (still) trending industrial rustic look, so it was fun to be in an industrial setting for our most recent room photo shoot at the Minneapolis Photo Center – Northwind Warehouse Lofts.


Built in 1885, the building was formerly a sash, door, and blind factory.  Of course the loft spaces have had some updates since then, but it was so interesting to see all of the character that still exists in the building.

The exposed ceilings, aged brick, and worn concrete had such a warmth, appeal, and a sense of history that doesn’t typically come with a new space.

And that warmth, character and patina are why, even though many of us will never live in an old factory, we still want to incorporate elements of this style into our homes.

The good news is, the industrial rustic look is an easy one to get creative with, and you can add as much or as little of the influence as you like – even in new spaces!

We’re converting an area in our Plymouth store to a warehouse loft space and decided that, since both white walls and brick walls are trending, it might be fun to replace our turquoise wall with a combination of both!

In addition to knowing a lot about design trends, the oh-so-talented Chad is also experienced at decorative painting and faux finishes, and he did an awesome job of bringing the brick wall vision to life.
