Furnishing Small Spaces: 6 Sofas Under 7 Feet

Furnishing small spaces - Small living room with vintage vibe and small sofa

When it comes to furnishing small spaces, there’s never just one size or style of seating that works best for everyone.  It really depends on your room and how you want it to look and function.

One obvious choice, though, may be a smaller scale sofa.  They help provide comfort and function just like larger sofas do, but in a size that may be more versatile.  And, with so many great options available, you don’t have to sacrifice style to satisfy space constraints.

To prove our point, we’ve rounded up 6 of our favorite small space sofa options – each under 7′.  From the mid-century styling and warm brown leather of our Elm Street Sofa, to the pleasing proportions and trending blue fabric of the Macleran, there’s a look for everyone.

And, even though we think these sofas are pretty perfect as is, it’s worth noting that 5 of the 6 also have custom order options available.

Space-Saving Ways to Add Storage to Your Living and Family Room

Use end tables with shelves to stack books and store small items

Whether we live in live in small houses or larger ones, most of us are looking for the best ways to utilize the space in our living room, or to add family room storage to keep our spaces organized and clutter free.

With that in mind, here are some simple ways to add more storage without taking up a lot of extra room:

Storage ottomans

These multitaskers not only give you a soft place to rest your feet and a surface to set a tray of accessories, goodies, or drinks, but they also provide the perfect place to hide things away.  Extra pillows, toys, and any number of items that you want accessible but not in plain sight.

A large storage ottoman adds a comfy place to rest your feet, hidden storage, extra seating and a cocktail table to set a tray of your favorite accessories or snacks

Accent chests.

Chests are a versatile piece of furniture that can work in any room of the house, but we like the idea of using a taller chest with drawers in place of an end table if it works in the space.

The Raylan chest worked perfectly in the space below!

Accent chests are a great way to add extra storage to your space. Substitute for an end table, fill a blank wall space, use in an entry or foyer

Seating with storage is unique and innovative.   It might also be one of my favorite ways to add more function and family room storage without taking up even an inch of extra space.

For example, the chaise in our Raphael sectional (above and below) opens to reveal a storage compartment inside.  So clever, and a great idea for any family room.

{We show the Raphael in gray in our stores and on our website, but it can also be custom ordered in the fabric of your choice.}

The Queen Sleeper sectional below (in stores) not only offers storage, but the chaise is reversible so it can be switched to fit your family room layout.   And, as the name implies, it’s a sleeper. Wow.

Doors and drawers.

Consider using cocktail and end tables with drawers and doors to allow for more family room storage

As you’re shopping for tables and bookshelves, you may want to consider options that have at least some doors and/or drawers.   They provide perfect little spaces to tuck things away out of sight.

Go Up.

A media console is perfect is perfect for housing TV components and other items, but if you’re looking for even more storage and display without taking up more square footage, consider consider adding a hutch or shelves.

Contain It.

If you prefer open tables without doors or drawers, using items like baskets, bins and suitcases can add a unique spin to your decorating while providing great storage options at the same time.
