Welcome to Room 3 in our Minnesota Casual Home series!
This beautiful, yet relaxed, living room is the definition of Minnesota Casual. The warm woods, casual finishes, natural materials, stylish (but simple) furniture, and a great blend of texture and pattern all combine to make a space that is very approachable and livable.
And if you’re a fan of neutrals, but you’ve always been a little unsure as to how to put them together in a way that’s not boring, you’re sure to be inspired. (We’re giving you 3 take-away tips below.)
WHY IT WORKS:
1. VARIED COLOR:
It’s interesting that there are really only 2 colors in this living room, gray and brown, but they play out in varying shades and tints which almost makes it seem more. (We also like the way white adds contrast and energy, though it’s technically not a color.)
We’re always talking about it, but the importance of using varying textures in neutral designs just can’t be overemphasized. In addition to the great textures already existing in this beautiful space, we added leather, glass, fabric, wood, natural fibers, metal… and that’s just a start.
If your neutral space still isn’t quite there yet, try adding some additional textures. You may be surprised at what happens!
When adding pattern to a space, it doesn’t necessarily always need to be bold (although who doesn’t love the geometric rug that we used?). Even subtle changes in pattern can make a difference and up the interest in the space.
