When I first saw this office vignette in our Plymouth store, (featuring our Kendrick Desk and Zippy Beige Chair) I was immediately taken with it. Black and white done right! This is my take on why it works so well.
Make it matte. When decorating with black, using a matte vs. high gloss finish on furniture makes for a warmer, more approachable design.
Play with pattern. Using geometric patterns adds a modern touch and livens up the space.
Variety. Mix cool and warm versions of white and black to create interest.
Do the unexpected. You probably wouldn’t normally think of hanging two clocks together, but it works here. Notice how the clock faces are opposite, which adds to the interest, and the black and white of the completely-not-predictable canvas art ties it together.
Life is good. Plants, whether real or faux, add an element of life to any design.
Details matter. Notice how they alternated the direction of the books on the desk? Little details make a difference!
Take it up a notch. Imagine this office with a standard black office chair. It would work, but have a completely different vibe. The upholstered chair with it’s linen-like fabric and nail head detail takes the space to another level.
Add some shine. Both the shiny and matte silver metal finishes add some sparkle and a nice finishing touch to this cozy office.
Texture. Every neutral design needs texture variation to make it work.
Are you a fan of black and white?
We deliver anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States, so let us know! :-) I kind of wanted to have them deliver the whole thing to my house too when I saw it. Very well done.
Love this office and love the two clocks! How soon can you deliver? :-)
