Yes! Your Wall Color Does Make a Difference

In our blog post about this little curtain experiment, we said “just changing one larger design element in the space, whether it’s curtains, or a rug, or a wall color can have a major impact on the overall mood.”

And, as you saw, that statement proved to be true.

So today we’re experimenting again – with wall colors this time.

The warm gray wall in this room was acceptable, but we wondered… how would swapping out the wall color change the mood of the space?

inspiring indigo.

We felt compelled to try a deep navy blue in this room because a. blue walls are still trending, and b. the color already exists as part of the pillow palette.

Wow!  From meh to mega moody with just one swipe of our “paint brush”.

{TIP: When you’re choosing wall colors, an easy place to start is to choose a color from the existing furniture and accessories as your inspiration.}

pretty in purple.

This is a great example of how a color that’s typically considered cool can actually warm up a space.

Mimicking the flower pillow color – deep, less saturated, and leaning to the red side of purple – adds a warmth and interest that’s unexpected and slightly bold, but not in your face.

awesome aqua.

One of my co-workers is slightly obsessed with the color aqua, so we had to try it on these walls no. matter. what. :-)

Turns out, it’s actually a pretty fun color choice.  The color adds a cheery playfulness to the room, and it definitely lightens and brightens the space.

why not white?

White creates a fresh, clean, and crisp backdrop, and it’s still a pretty popular color choice for walls.  White walls are also a great way to allow accent colors to shine.

If you’re worried about your room feeling too stark or cold, choose a white that has warm undertones.

We had fun seeing how the different wall colors impacted the room, and hopefully you did too. Which wall color was your favorite?

If your own space feels a little off or less-than-inspiring, switching up the paint color is definitely something to consider. Click the graphic below to go to our COLOR AND PAINT page for more inspiration and ideas.

I’d have to go with the indigo – I never tire of blue and there are so many pretty shades.
