When it comes to ways to add a design “moment” to the architecture of a space, sliding barn doors have to be one of my current favorites.
They’ve been big for some time now and, from what I keep seeing, will continue to be. They’re everywhere – homes, design blogs, social media, this year’s recent Artisan Home Tour, and now in furniture design. We all seem to be more than happy to keep the trend alive.

In addition to really creating a statement in a room, a large part of their appeal is that they’re just so versatile. There are seemingly unending ways to design and use them, and they’re not limited to any one room of the house.
From clean and simple to rough and rustic and from the mudroom to the family room, there’s no room or style that doesn’t seem to be able to benefit from the addition of one or two sliding barn doors.
As I mentioned here, we recently did a room shoot at a home built by Swanson Homes. There were two beautiful rustic doors that led from the foyer into the home office. They definitely added some wow factor, and of course we couldn’t resist getting some furniture shots with them.
One of the other ways that we’re loving barn doors these days is on furniture. Specifically the new Pine Hill collection with sliding barn doors.
In this case the doors provide a very functional feature that hides the TV, drawers and shelves in the entertainment unit. A small sliding barn door just as easily covers secret storage in the door chest.
A really great way to combine practical every day function with a not-so-ordinary statement-making trend.
Are you as big of a fan of this trend as we are?
