Hallway Decorating: Why This One Works

hallway decorating - warm modern hallway with trending olive green

Hallway decorating isn’t usually on the top of most of our to-do lists.  Because there are usually bigger decorating fish to fry and hallways are at least functional, if not necessarily cozy, by design.

But when you stumble across a beautiful hallway like this one at our most recent photo shoot, what do you do?  Style it, of course!

Here are 5 reasons we think this space works:

Statement bench.

This statement-making, mid-century-influenced bench is usually shown with our East Side dining set (which, speaking of statements…).  As you can see, though, it’s equally as impressive, and functional, as a hallway bench.

It’s sleek lines, cognac finish, and warm, textured fabric set the stage for our little hallway decorating project – clean and modern, yet warm and inviting.

That rug.

Hair-on-hide rugs are so versatile and work with a variety of styles and color schemes.

We like the way our natural brindle hide rug added an unexpected element and unique organic shape to this space. And texture. Always texture.

Perky pillows.

Pillows are an easy, low-commitment way to mix up your look.   We chose these 3 because they were fun, graphic, slightly quirky, and full of personality.

And black and white goes with anything.

Trending colors.

The colors in this hallway were already right on trend.   Soft gray walls and chunky white trim offer a light and airy counterpoint to our warmer decorating scheme.

Another color trend, olive green, is beautifully displayed in the bench fabric.  The framed art above hints at repeating this warm, earthy color, but also gives a nod to some of Pantone’s brighter Colors of the Year – 2017 Greenery and 2018 Ultra-Violet.

{Design tip: Mixing brighter hues with warmer, muted tones keeps things interesting.}

A splash of nature.

Plants add life to any room and a permanent botanical softens the hallway and enhances the organic, nature-inspired theme.
